Tocmai am citit ceva care ar putea implicatii majore: vor exista consultari la nivelul GMC pentru introducerea unui examen obligatoriu inainte ca noii doctori sa primeasca inregistrarea:

In January the NHS Future Forum recommended that the GMC “should lead discussions on the desirability of implementing a national exam in medicine that would support alignment of registration and qualification”

In 2013 the GMC will review whether a compulsory national examination should be introduced and whether it should be linked to the granting of provisional registration at the end of medical school or the granting of full registration on successful completion of foundation year one.

Este luata in considerare ideea ca acest examen national obligatoriu sa fie testul PLAB (professional and linguistic assessments board):

The General Medical Council is to consider using the professional and linguistic assessments board (PLAB) test should it choose to introduce a national exam for medical students or foundation doctors.

N-am gasit inca pe site-ul GMC sursele informatiilor care sunt preluate in stirea de la BMJ, dar banuiesc ca ar trebui sa fie pe undeva.

De la DH graire:

Language checks for doctors included in consultation on role of responsible officers

Proposals to ensure the language competence of doctors have been put forward as part of a consultation launched today on regulations governing the role of Responsible Officers.

Under the proposals, Responsible Officers would work with the General Medical Council to ensure doctors working in their organisation have all the right checks including making sure they understand NHS processes and medicines.

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said:

‘By giving new powers to Responsible Officers we can make sure that doctors not only speak English before they treat patients in this country but are also competent to work within the NHS, making sure that they understand NHS processes and medicines which is as important as language to the quality of care patients receive. I hope everyone gets involved and has their say.’
